Try these animal picture writing prompts to inspire your students to write in the classroom.
Many students struggle to get started when writing a story because they can’t think of anything to write about. I love using picture writing prompts because it is a visual starting point for students to make a story based off of the picture.
Generate Writing Ideas for Students
I have created a collection of animal writing prompts just for your upper elementary students. You can engage the students by discussing the picture, have the students turn and talk with their neighbors about what they see or have the students jump right in to explain how the picture came to be, what happened before or after the picture. Let them write and then have them share their creative stories with their classmates.
If your students still struggle to get started have then come up with a list of questions, animals, movie or something that gets them generating ideas. This way they can practice their writing, but in a more successful modified task.
FYI: I only endorse things that I've personally used or have come highly recommended from my teacher friends and family and think they may be helpful to you. If you buy anything mentioned using my Amazon referral links, I may get a small commission at no extra cost to you.
